Wiper-Style Destructive Malware Caught by Metascan
The new GigaWiper malware family targets Windows systems with a single payload that bundles disk-wiping, fake ransomware displays, and information-stealing spyware, using multi-stage delivery to evade signature-based detection. Destructive malware of this kind is time-critical: once a wiper begins erasing data, recovery depends on rapid identification and containment. This demo submits the EICAR test executable — the standard, completely safe malware simulation file — to Metascan, where 30+ anti-malware engines analyze it in parallel and produce an aggregated verdict. Multi-engine scanning catches samples that individual vendors miss and gives analysts the confidence to act before destructive payloads execute on production systems.
